The Ancient Library of Alexandria
Inspired by Alexander the Great's desire to learn from the people and lands he conquered, the original Library was created by King Ptolemy I Soter, Alexander's successor in Egypt, to attract scholars from all over the known world. It served as a center of learning for several hundered years, until it collapsed around 400 CE (AD).
